Nov. 25, 2007 - GREENVILLE - Through the first half of the region II semi-final game for division I in class 2A, the matchup between the Winnsboro Red Raiders and the Farmersville Farmers, lived up to the pre-game anticipation: two teams that loved to run the football that also had stingy defenses.

By the time the two teams went to the locker rooms, the difference in the 7-6 score was a missed point-after kick by the Red Raiders.

That all changed quickly in the second half as Farmersville scored 21 points in the third quarter, beginning with a 60-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage, for a 35-6 win over the Red Raiders on Friday night at Cotton Stadium in Greenville.

For the first time this season, Winnsboro finished the game with more yards passing (121) than rushing (79).

That ought to tell you something right there, said Red Raider head coach Steve Pinnell. We just couldn't get anything going. The strength of their defense was to the outside for containment, so on paper we should have been able to run the ball in the middle. But their big guys won that battle too.

After a scoreless first quarter, Farmersville struck first with a 2-yard touchdown run by Tajh Redwine. The touchdown run capped an eight-play drive that spanned 72 yards and gave Farmersville a 7-0 lead.

Winnsboro answered with a touchdown by marching 67 yards in 13 plays. Tommy Evans capped the scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. The kick for the point-after try fell short leaving a 7-6 score with 4:29 remaining in the first half.

A key play in the scoring drive came on second-and-10 at their own 45-yard line. With the Farmersville defense committed to stopping the run, Winnsboro quarterback Sean Ditto found Blake Bennett behind the Farmersville secondary and completed a 37-yard pass that put the Red Raiders on the Farmersville 18-yard line.

Just before the half, Christian Bosold recovered a Farmersville fumble that gave Winnsboro possession on their own 32-yard line.

With time running short and the Red Raiders facing third-and-8 from their own 45-yard line, Ditto completed a 34-yard pass to Bosold that put Winnsboro on the Farmersville 21-yard line with seven seconds remaining in the half.

On the final play of the half, Ditto tried to connect with Bennett in the end zone but the pass fell incomplete leaving the score at 7-6.

The second half saw Farmersville take control of the game. The Farmers added touchdowns on a 60-yard run by Redwine, a 15-yard run by Nickevian Taylor, a 12-yard pass from Austin Brooks to Quincy Roberts in the third quarter, and a 2-yard run by Brooks in the fourth quarter.

Winnsboro's season ends with a record of 10-2 while Farmersville advances to the next round to face the Caddo Mills Foxes in the regional final.
