Nov. 17, 2007 - GARLAND - The Emory Rains Wildcats' football season came to an end Friday night with a 49-6 bi-district loss to the Celina Bobcats at Homer B. Johnson Stadium in Garland.

The Wildcats finished the season facing two top-five teams listed in the Associated Press poll for Class 3A - Celina (No. 3) in the Class 3A, Division II playoffs and Royse City (No. 5) in the regular season finale.

Celina opened the game by scoring on each of its first three possessions to take a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Celina recovered an onside kick and looked poised to score on their fourth possession until Colby Hoover intercepted a Seth Davis pass that put an end to the drive.

On offense the Wildcats struggled to maintain possession of the football. Their first three drives resulted in three-and-out possessions. Taylor Marshall finally found Hoover for a 15-yard pass in the second quarter to give the Cats their first extended drive.

By the time the two teams went to the locker rooms at the half, Celina had built a 34-0 lead. The Bobcats had so dominated the game that they had 222 yards rushing on 22 carries in the first half compared to the 8 yards on 12 carries for the Wildcats.

Celina added a touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters to extend its lead to 48-0 before Rains managed to put together a scoring drive. Montrel Christian completed passes to Hoover and Montrea Hobbs to move the Wildcats into Celina territory.

Hoover put the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a 27-yard touchdown reception. Hoover pulled in the pass near the 23-yard line then slipped a pair of tackles before tight-roping down the sideline to reach the end zone. The point-after kick failed leaving the 48-6 final score.
