Winnsboro hammers Quitman to win district

Nov. 11, 2007 - QUITMAN - The Winnsboro Red Raiders completed another unbeaten District 16-2A campaign on Friday, handing Quitman its first loss, 35-7, at Bud Moody Stadium.

Winnsboro finished the season with a 9-1 record and 5-0 in district, the same record as last season.

The Red Raiders will go into the Div. I bracket of the playoffs, where they will match-up against Prairiland on Friday in Greenville. Quitman (8-2, 4-1) will be the top seed in Div. II, and will play either Paris Chisum or DeKalb.

Winnsboro quarterback Sean Ditto scored four touchdowns and engineered the Red Raider offense to the tune of 325 total yards, including 284 on the ground.

Winnsboro took advantage of a Quitman miscue on the first series. After the Bulldogs failed to pick up a first down on their opening possession, the deep snap sailed over the punter’s head ,giving Winnsboro the ball on the Bulldog 7-yard line.

Four plays later, Ditto scored on a 2-yard for a 7-0 Red Raider lead.

Ditto added three more short touchdown runs of 4, 3 and 1 yards and ended the the game with 151 yards rushing on 17 carries out of the Red Raiders' wishbone offense.

Quitman got on the board in the fourth quarter on quarterback Colten Peek’s 1-yard run.
