Yantis, MG seasons end in regional quarters

From Staff Reports

Nov. 7, 2007 - ATHENS - The Yantis Lady Owls saw their successful 2007 season come to an end at the hands of Cross Roads in the regional quarterfinal game.

The Lady Owls fell to the Lady Cats 17-25, 26-24, 18-25, 8-25.

The Lady Owls went into the contest short-handed. Seniors Baylee Gilbreath and Jamie Gilliland were unable to play in the contest. A stomach virus sidelined Gilbreath, who was not able to dress for the game. Gilliland re-injured a knee in pregame warm-ups and was unable to play. Both girls were First Team All-District as juniors.

"I am very proud of our effort. The girls played very hard, but it just was not in the cards for us this time," Yantis head coach Dana Gilliland said. "I hated it for Baylee and Jamie, but sometimes things happen that we just can't control. I thought all our girls put forth a great effort. We got beat by a very good team."

For the game, Isy Reyna led Yantis with five kills, three aces, six digs, two assists and five blocks, Holly Madden added six kills and four blocks, Amanda McKinney had two kills, three digs and two assists. Traci Glenn had two aces, one kill and seven assists, Keri Glenn had one ace, one kill, one dig and one assist, Kenzie Apel finished with one dig and two assists, and Christina Tauzen had one kill, one dig and two assists.

The Lady Owls finished their superb season 27-4 which included an 18-game winning streak, a co-district championship, and were ranked as high as seventh in the state.
