Nov. 5, 2007 - The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are in the playoffs for sure. What they don't know is who they will be facing the first round.
It could be Marshall, Kilgore or Whitehouse, which are all still in the postseason hunt in District 12-4A, along with Nacogdoches.
The playoff scenario looks like this:
District 11-4A - Sulphur Springs (8-1, 4-0) has clinched at least a share of the district championship and will be the top seed in Div. II. Texas High (5-3-1, 3-1) has clinched a playoff spot and will be the Div. I representative. The winner between Mount Pleasant and Lindale (both with 5-4, 2-2 records) on Friday will earn third place and the No. 2 seed in Div. II.
By virtue of SSHS being the No. 1 seed, the Wildcats will play the No. 2 seed in Div. II out of District 12-4A.
District 12-4A - Two teams have clinched playoff spots - Marshall (6-3, 5-1) and Kilgore (7-2, 5-1). Meanwhile Whitehouse (8-1, 5-1) and Nacogdoches (5-4, 4-2) are still alive and play each other on Friday with the winner making the playoffs. If Nacogdoches makes the playoffs, the Dragons will be the Div. I team. Otherwise, Marshall will go into the Div. I bracket.
Who makes the playoffs in District 12-4A is easy to digest: Marshall, Kilgore and the winner between Whitehouse/Nacogdoches is in. However, because the Div. I team is still to be determined, there are several scenarios for matchups.
On Friday, all four playoff-possible teams face each other with Nacogdoches traveling to Whitehouse and Kilgore playing at Marshall.
Below is how it all affects Sulphur Springs:
If Nacogdoches wins and Marshall wins: Then, Nac goes in as the Div. I school, Marshall will be the No. 1 seed in Div. II and Kilgore would be the No. 2 seed in Div. II. Thus, SSHS would play Kilgore.
If Nacogdoches wins and Kilgore wins: Again, Nac goes in as the Div. I representative. However, if Kilgore wins, then they are the No. 1 seed in Div. I and Marshall is the No. 2 seed. So, SSHS would play Marshall.
If Whitehouse wins and Marshall wins: Then, Marshall will be the Div. I school, Whitehouse would be the No. 1 seed in Div. II and Kilgore would be the No. 2 seed in Div. II. So, SSHS would play Kilgore.
If Whitehouse wins and Kilgore wins: Marshall would again be the Div. I school, but then Kilgore would be the No. 1 seed in Div. I and Whitehouse would be the No. 2 seed. So, SSHS would play Whitehouse.
The bi-district round of the playoffs is set for Friday or Saturday, Nov. 9 or 10.
