Miller Grove sweeps Simms Bowie in bi-district

Oct. 31, 2007 - PATTONVILLE - It took a little while for the Miller Grove Lady Hornets to get their playoff nerves settled on Tuesday, but once they did, they rolled over Simms James Bowie.
The Lady Hornets swept Simms Bowie in three games, 25-18, 25-10, 25-18, in the Class A bi-district volleyball match at Prairiland High School.
Miller Grove was co-champs of District 18-A with Yantis, and went into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed. They will now advance to the area round of the playoffs, where they will face Leveretts Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Quitman.
Against Simms Bowie, MG head coach Melissa Kethley said the Lady Hornets settled down after a shaky beginning.
"The girls had a rough start, due to nerves I suppose, but after shanking about five points in a row, their finally ready," Kethley said. "We served well, communicated and played together, which helped us bring home a victory."
The Lady Hornets were led by Becca George, who had a team-high 12 kills, three blocks and 19 points. Natalie Bailey added 11 points and 11 kills, while Adrian Estrada contributed a team-high 13 assists to go with 15 points.
Haley Potts added 10 assists, 11 service points and three kills, while Angelic Rios also had double-digit points with 13. Mareyna Pillard recorded a team-high seven digs and Kasey Burns produced three points.
"I'm very proud of the girls," Kethley said. "They have been working hard and their hard work is paying off."
