Former teammates face off: Grand-Lienard, Kelty play each other in LSC tourney

Oct. 31, 2007 - Two former Lady Cat teammates will face off against each other tomorrow in the Lone Star Conference women's soccer championship tournament.

Gayle Grand-Lienard, a freshman at Texas Woman's University, and Makenzie Kelty, a sophomore at Texas A&M-Commerce, will play each other in the first round of the tournament at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Tom Thompson Field on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.

Grand-Lienard is a two-time district Most Valuable Player for the Lady Cats, while Kelty was a First Team All-District midfielder. In 2006, they shared the team's MVP honor.

The six-team field is hosted by UCO, which won the regular season league championship with a 10-0 record.

The championship starts at noon tomorrow with No. 3 seed Angelo State playing No. 6 West Texas A&M. The 2:30 p.m. game matches No. 4 Texas Woman’s against No. 5 Texas A&M-Commerce.

The ASU/WTAMU victor advances to play Midwestern State at noon on Friday, while the TWU/A&M-C winner plays Central Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. The Friday winners get a day to rest before playing on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the LSC Championship and an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II tournament.

All the tournament games will be aired live via internet video streaming at The webcasts are available on a pay-per-view basis for $5.50 per game or a tournament pass can be purchased for $12.99. Each webcast includes both video and audio, with viewers needing only a computer with a high-speed DSL or cable modem connection to the internet. Veteran broadcaster Chris Needham has the call for all the games.
