May 22, 2007 - Ebbonye Johnson received one final honor this week on the heels of one of an incredibly decorated high school career.
The North Hopkins senior was named a Track and Field All-Star by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. And why not?
In her four years at North Hopkins, Johnson has qualified for the UIL State Track and Field Meet all four seasons, earning eight medals and participating in six different events. In her senior season, she won gold in the high jump, silver in the long jump and was eighth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Johnson was one of 14 girls in Class A-3A to be selected for the All-Star honor. She and the other All-Stars will be recognized at halftime of the TGCA basketball All-Star game on July 12 at Austin's Delco Center.
Johnson was also named All-State in track and field by the TGCA this season, and joining her was NH junior Jessi Mannis, who placed seventh in both the 3,200 and 1,600 meters at state this year.
This was the second season that Mannis has qualified for state in both events, and she won a silver medal in the two-mile race as a sophomore.
Another NH distance runner, senior Sabra Thomas, was named Academic All-State. Thomas barely missed out on her fourth straight trip to the state meet this year, finishing in the top six in both events at regional. Thomas is also the school's valedictorian.
