Diamond playoffs start up again tonight

May 10, 2007 - With three Hopkins County teams remaining in the UIL state playoffs, the North Hopkins baseball and softball teams and the Saltillo Lions will continue play this weekend.
The regional quarterfinal match-up between the North Hopkins Lady Panthers and the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs will be played tonight at 7 p.m. in Fruitvale.
North Hopkins coach Jim Westbrook said if tonight's game is postponed due to the weather, the two teams will play at 3 p.m. Saturday at a site to be determined.
In baseball, the North Hopkins Panthers look to advance to the next round when they take on the Overton Mustangs in Game 2 of their best 2-out-of-3 series on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Gilmer High School.
North Hopkins won Game 1 of the series, 4-2, on Tuesday night as Overton stranded nine runners on base. Bradley Ball picked up the win with a complete-game five hitter.
The Panthers received a first-round bye after winning the District 17-A title.
The Saltillo Lions open their area series against Price Carlisle at 7 p.m. today in Longview with Game 1 of the best-out-of-three series. Game 2 will be Saturday at 1 p.m. with Game 3 to follow, if necessary.
Saltillo defeated James Bowie two games to one in bi-district as senior Travis Thompson won the deciding game last Saturday.
