McDaniel in top 20 after first round of state golf

May 8, 2008 - AUSTIN - SSHS senior Whitney McDaniel finished the first round of the state golf tournament in the top 20, just three strokes out of the top 10.

McDaniel was playing in the second and final round today at the Roy Kizer Golf Course, which is a 5,727-yard par-71 layout full of rolling hills, dog legs, cedars and oaks.

On Monday in her first trip to the UIL State Golf Tournament, McDaniel shot an 81, which was nine strokes back of the individual leader, Lisa McCloskey of Montgomery who carded a 1-over 72.

She qualified for the state tournament by winning a three-hole playoff for fourth at region.
