Six county teams in playoff action

May 2, 2007 - This weekend will be a busy time for many area baseball teams as the bi-district round of the playoffs begins for North Hopkins, Miller Grove, Yantis, Cumby and Saltillo this Thursday-Saturday.
The Miller Grove Hornets will face off against Beckville in a best-2-out-of-3 series at Longview Pine Tree High School with Game 1 at 6 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. with Game 3 to follow if necessary.
The Cumby Trojans will look to advance in the playoffs when they begin their best-2-out-of-3 series against the Maud Cardinals in Mount Pleasant. Game 1 is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday. Game 2 is set for noon Saturday, with Game 3, if necessary, to follow.
Saltillo has set its series against Simms James Bowie for Thursday-Saturday at Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill. Games 1 and 2 are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday with Game 3 at 1 p.m. Saturday, if necessary.
The Yantis Owls will play the Overton Mustangs in their best-2-out-of-3 series at Lindale beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. Game 2 is set for Friday at 7 p.m. and Game 3 will be at noon Saturday, if necessary.
The North Hopkins baseball team received a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Yantis/Overton series next weekend.
In softball, North Hopkins rescheduled its best-2-out-of-3 area round series to a one-game playoff against Union Hill at 4:30 p.m. today, weather permitting. The game is set to be played at North Hopkins. The Lady Panthers received a first-round bye after winning District 17-A.
