Wildcats will face Nacogdoches in first round of playoffs

April 30, 2007 - The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will have two chances this week to advance in the Class 4A baseball playoffs.
The Wildcats will need to win a pair of games from the Nacogdoches Dragons when the two teams meet in the best 2-out-of-3 series Thursday-Saturday.
Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in Hallsville. Game 2 is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday at Driller Park in Kilgore, and Game 3, if necessary, will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Driller Park.
Junior righthander Brittan Diamond is expected to get the starting nod for the first game, with Kevin Mabe and Jeff Beck also expected to pitch in the series.
The Wildcats finished third in District 11-4A with a 15-11 overall record, 6-4 in district. Nacogdoches was the District 12-4A runner-up with a 19-9 season mark.
North Lamar, the District 11-4A runner-up, will play Kilgore in the bi-district round this week, while district champion Texas High earned a first-round bye.
Playoff arrangements are also being made for several other county schools. Yantis, Cumby, North Hopkins and Miller Grove are all in the postseason in baseball.
In softball, North Hopkins, the District 19-A champion, will take on Union Hill in the area round of the playoffs this week. North Hopkins received a first-round bye, while Union Hill is coming off a 7-6 win over Beckville in bi-district.
