NH's Johnson wins five events

Mar. 27, 2007 - WOLFE CITY - North Hopkins senior Ebbonye Johnson took home five first place medals at the Wolfe City track meet on Saturday, leading the Lady Panthers to the team championship.
Johnson, who competed in four events last year at the state track meet, won the long jump, triple jump, high jump, 300-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.
This was the first time for Johnson to compete in the triple jump as she finished with a leap of 32 feet, 5 1/2 inches, and only the second time to do the 300-meter hurdles as she finished with a time of 49.49 seconds. Teammate Brittany Whaley was fifth in the triple jump at 28-8.
Johnson cleared 4-10 in the high jump, leapt 16-0 3/4 in the long jump, and placed first in the 200-meter dash with a clocking of 27.73 seconds.
In the shot put, Megan Lehr won gold with a 31-6 1/2 toss and also picked up first in the discus with a toss of 92-10. Teammate Savannah Starek was fourth in the discus with a throw of 85-5 1/2.
The NH distance contingency once again was strong at the meet as junior Jessi Mannis was a double winner in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.
Mannis won the 3,200 in a time of 12:21.04 and then came back and won the 1,600 meters in 5:50.51. Teammates Sabra Thomas and Rosa Fuentes finished in the top five in both events.
Thomas recorded third place finishes in the 1,600 with a time of 6:10.92 and in the 3,200 in a time of 13:01.59, while Fuentes was fourth in the 1,600 at 6:31.33 and fifth in the 3,200 at 13:30.45.
The 1,600 meter relay team of Mannis, Whaley, Fuentes and Thomas finished fifth in a time of 4:56.18.
