SS freshmen win district baseball opener

From Staff Reports

Mar. 26, 2007 - Sulphur Springs pitcher Colby Suggs opened up district play in an impressive manner for the fresmen team on Friday as he pitched a seven-inning, complete-game shutout over Mount Pleasant, 8-0.

In doing so, Suggs struck out 15 batters and walked just one while improving his record to 4-0.

Offensively, either reached base or recorded an RBI to contribute to the eight runs scored.

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as leadoff batter Conner Brackhahn doubled to left field. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, he was brought home by Mason Morton's grounder.

After three innings, the score still stood at 1-0 when the Wildcat bats finally broke it open. Five consecutive batters reached base.

Suggs led off with a double to center field, Tyler Higginbotham followed with a walk and Jake Dugan then plated both of them with a double to left-center field. After Kade Wimberly reached on a error on an attempted sacrifice bunt, Bryce Jenkins knocked them both in with a single to right field to make the score 5-0. The Wildcats then turned to small ball to bring in Jenkins as Shelby Williamson bunted him to third base and Brackhahn brought him home on a fielder's choice grounder. SSHS added two more runs in the fifth inning.
