Panthers open District 17-A with run-rule victory over Campbell

Mar. 21, 2007 - BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins Panthers opened up the District 17-A schedule with a 14-0 run-rule victory over Campbell on Tuesday.

North Hopkins junior Bradley Ball picked up the win on the mound pitching a complete game two hitter while striking out 10 batters and walking four.

The Panthers (7-9 overall, 1-0 in district) were led by Ball at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and six RBI, and Joe Smiddy went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.

Teammates Steven Crocker went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Dustin Clements and Lorenzo Rivera each had a hit and an RBI, and Ricky Willis and Jy'Darius Hawkins added hits.

During tournament play this season, the Panthers won the consolation title at the Leonard tournament after being tied with Wolfe City at 8-8. The won on a tie-breaker with the most runners reaching third base.

The Panthers played four game in Southern Oklahoma prior to the district opener and went 2-2 during that trip. They beat Coleman 4-3 and Achille 12-10.

The Panthers will continue district play and will travel to Sulphur Bluff on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
