Mar. 19, 2007 - One SSHS soccer team knows who and when it will be playing in the UIL playoffs, while the other must wait until tonight.
The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats, who finished third in District 16-4A, will take on state-ranked McKinney Boyd Thursday evening at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney.
The game will be played at either 6 p.m. or 7 p.m., depending on whether the SSHS boys team will also be playing Boyd.
The Boyd girls are ranked No. 1 in the area by the Dallas Morning News and No. 3 in the state by the coaches poll. They finished tied for second in District 15-4A with Mesquite Poteet.
The SSHS boys will face either Greenville or Boyd in the playoffs, depending on the outcome of the Paris/Pleasant Grove contest tonight.
Sulphur Springs is currently fourth in the 16-4A standings, but will move up to either second or third, provided they beat last-place Liberty-Eylau (which has scored just one goal in district all season).
If Paris and Pleasant Grove tie and Paris wins in a shootout - which is what happened the first time the two teams met - then Sulphur Springs will be the district's second-place team. In all other scenarios involving the Paris and Pleasant Grove outcome, Sulphur Springs will be in third.
If the Wildcats finish second in the district, they will play third-place Boyd in the first round of the playoffs. That will happen in a doubleheader on Thursday.
If the Wildcats finish third, they will play Greenville, the 15-4A second-place team, at a site and time to be determined.
