Lady Cats freshman split games at Greenville tournament

Mar. 6, 2007 - GREENVILLE - The Sulphur Springs freshmen won one game and lost two in the Greenville junior varsity tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Cats lost to Bonham 9-6 and Athens 17-4, but defeated Mesquite Poteet 14-4 during the tournament.
Katy Mason went 5-for-12 during the tournament with five runs scored, two RBI and seven stolen bases, while teammate Sloane Martin went 4-for-12 with eight runs scored, one RBI and five stolen bases.
Chelsey Hampton also went 5-for-12 during the tournament with six runs scored, six stolen bases and one RBI, and Jasmine Edwards went 3-for-8 with two runs scored, one RBI and three stolen bases. Baylee Speaker was 3-for-8 with six runs scored, three RBI and one stolen base and also had 22 strikeouts in the circle during the tournament.
On Monday, the Lady Cats needed a late rally to take care of the Winnsboro Lady Raiders 14-10 as they were down 6-0 going into the top of the sixth inning.
The Lady Cats scored seven runs to take a 7-6 lead and then Winnsboro came back with a run of its own to tie the game at 7-7 heading into the seventh inning.
In the top of the inning, SSHS scored seven runs to take a 14-7 lead and held Winnsboro to three runs in the bottom half of the inning for the win.
Hampton went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, Elizabeth Sheffield went 3-for-5 with a run scored an one RBI, and Colette McDuff went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
The Lady Cats will next play in the Sulphur Springs junior varsity tournament starting Thursday at Lady Cat Park.
