North Hopkins loses to Winnsboro; MGHS boys win in Celeste

Mar. 2, 2007 - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers suffered a tough loss to the Winnsboro Lady Raiders, while in baseball action Miller Grove won in exciting fashion over Saltillo during the Celeste Tournament.
Winnsboro 2, North Hopkins 0
BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers dropped a non-district matchup to the Winnsboro Lady Raiders, 2-0, Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers had three hits off Winnsboro starter Montana Hearn on a single by Holli Argenbright and doubles by Courtney Loper and Ashley Deaton.
KayLee Cotten took the loss in the circle for North Hopkins in a complete game giving up nine hits and one walk while striking out 12 batters.
The North Hopkins defense gave up three errors, while Winnsboro committed one error.
Miller Grove 8, Saltillo 7
CELESTE - A five-run fifth inning gave Miller Grove the come-from-behind win Thursday during the Celeste Tournament.
Miller Grove's Reece Evans singled in Yan Heijligers in the bottom of the sixth inning as the time limit expired and went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, while teammate Jordan Lennon went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Heijligers went 1-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI and tied the game with a single in the sixth inning before scoring the game winner.
Seth Roberts picked up the win in relief of Brady Harmon and went three innings giving up three runs on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
"Brady started the game and pitched well but we didn't play well behind him," said MGHS coach Sam Panter. "He only gave up one earned run and struck out six in three innings. Seth came in the fourth inning and did a good job of keeping us in the game."
Dakota Hrabal, Harmon, Chance Lee, Steven Mayfield and Aaron Baylus recorded hits for the Hornets.
