June 21, 2007 - The 7-on-7 football league hosted by Sulphur Springs will play this afternoon, weather permitting, likely at the high school practice fields.
It was originally thought that the fields would be unplayable because they would be under maintenance, but because of the rainy weather, it appears the maintenance work may be postponed.
If the high school practice fields cannot be used, then the games will be played at the middle school.
The SS varsity will play games at 4:30 p.m. against Commerce and 6:30 p.m. against Paris. The SS JV will take on Mount Vernon at 5:30 p.m. and Como-Pickton at 7:30 p.m.
The Sulphur Springs varsity is also playing in the Tyler State Qualifying Tournament on Saturday at Lindsey Park.
The Wildcats are coming off a semifinal finish in the Paris SQT last Saturday, missing out on a state berth by one victory.
On Saturday, the Wildcats are in Pool C and will play pool games against Forney at 10 a.m., Elysian Fields at 11 a.m. and Longview Pine Tree at noon.
The winner of each of the tournament's four pools will go into the semifinal round at 1:30 p.m., with the championship game set for 2:30 p.m. the top two teams in the tournament advance to the state tournament in College Station on July 13-14.
Other teams in the tournament include Pool A: Rockwall, John Tyler, Marshall and Lindale; Pool B: South Garland, Whitehouse, Jacksonville and Beaumont Central; and Pool D: Arlington Lamar, Tyler Lee, Belton and Palestine Westwood.
