Local Dixie teams fall short of WS championship

July 26, 2007 - Two Hopkins County All-Star teams represented themselves well at the Dixie Softball World Series, with the Darlings making it to the quarterfinals and the Angels advancing to the semifinals before they were eliminated.
The Angels (9-10-year-olds) were beaten in the semifinal round by Alabama, 4-0, on Wednesday, giving the local team its second loss in the double elimination tournament played in Denison. The Angels were handed their first loss on Tuesday by Louisiana, 9-1.
The local team, coached by Mike Moore, Sharon Womack and Jamie Harris, won the state tournament played at Coleman Park in Sulphur Springs to qualify for the World Series.
Louisiana and Alabama will play tonight for the World Series championship in the Angels division.
In the Darlings division (7-8-year-olds), the Hopkins County team coached by Rowdy Crowson was eliminated by Tennessee on Tuesday by a score of 18-6. Like the Angels team, the Darlings also won the state tournament at Coleman Park to qualify them for the World Series, played in North Carolina.
In the Darlings bracket, Louisiana beat Alabama twice in the championship round to capture the title.
