SS teams lose in sectionals

From Staff Reports

July 16, 2007 - The final two teams from Sulphur Springs had a tough ending to the Little League Sectional play this past weekend.

The 9-10-year old Sulphur Springs Drillers, coached by Kevin Hudgins, defeated Witchita Falls Friday night by a score of 5-3 and then eliminated Abilene Dixie 8-2 on Saturday. In a rematch of their opening round game, Fort Worth University won 6-0 and eliminated the Drillers from tournament play.

The Junior Leaguers (13-14-year-olds), coached by Jerry Riley, defeated Burkburnett 26-4 on Friday night, eliminated Lorena on Saturday 11-4 and then lost a heart breaker to Fort Worth Westside 7-6 on Sunday.

"All in all, I think that we had a successful season this year after returning to Little League competition," said Robert Cody. "It’s a little tougher traveling west and playing teams based out of the metroplex and larger cities, but we feel like that level of competition will only make our kids better in the long run. To put it in perspective, there are more Little League franchises in just our section than there is in the entire state for Dixie. We are proud of all of kids, and their hard work and effort they gave this year, and we a proud to be a part of Little League baseball again."
