Sectional Setbacks: Local teams have tough contests in Little League play

July 13, 2007 - Three teams from Sulphur Springs had a tough night Thursday in Little League sectional play.

The Sulphur Springs 10-11-year-olds, coached by Scott Millsap, were eliminated last night by Abilene Wylie. They lost their tournament opener Wednesday night against Fort Worth University.

The Junior Leaguers (13-14-year-olds), coached by Jerry Riley, lost the opener at Arlington Heights High School against Fort Worth Westside. They will face Burkburnett at 6 p.m. today in an elimination game.

The 9-10-year-old Sulphur Springs Drillers, coached by Kevin Hudgins, lost a heart breaker last night to Fort Worth University 8-7. The Drillers led 7-5 in the bottom of the last inning, but University came from behind to take the victory. The game featured a two-run home run over the right field wall by Will Sant in the fifth inning. The Drillers will face Wichita Falls at 6 p.m. today in an elimination game.
