Little League teams start Sectional events this week

July 11, 2007 - All three Sulphur Springs baseball teams which advanced to the Sectional tournaments will begin play this week against teams from Fort Worth.

All three local teams, which each won District 8 tournaments, will be participating in the Little League's Texas West Section II Tournaments.

The Junior League team, coached by Jerry Riley, will take on Fort Worth Westside at 6 p.m. Thursday. All games for the tournament, scheduled July 12-16, will be played at Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth.

If Sulphur Springs wins, they will play at 8 p.m. Saturday. A first-round loss will have them playing at 6 p.m. Friday.

In the 10-11-year-old division, Sulphur Springs will be playing at Key City Park in Abilene starting today. The local team, coached by Scott Millsap, will play Fort Worth University at 6 p.m.

If Sulphur Springs wins, they will play at 6 p.m. Thursday. If they lose to FW University, they will play at 8 p.m. Thursday. The tournament will run through July 16.

In the 9-10-year-old division, the Sulphur Springs Drillers will be playing at Westside Park in Fort Worth. The Drillers will take on Fort Worth University at 6 p.m. Thursday.

If the Drillers win in the first round, they will play again at 8 p.m. Saturday. If they lose, they will play at 6 p.m. Friday. The tournament concludes on July 17.
