Sulphur Springs Blaze fall in district tournament

July 6, 2007 - CARROLLTON - The Sulphur Springs Blaze, the local 11-12-year-old All-Star team, had a heart-breaking loss to Carrollton this week in the Little League District 8 Tournament.

The 12-11 loss ended the season for the Blaze, coached by Wayne Cooper and Scott Stewart.

The Blaze were led at the plate by Connor Cooper, who hit three home runs and drove in seven of the team's 11 runs.

Sulphur Springs carried an 11-8 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but with two outs, Carrollton got three runners on base via errors, then hit a game-winning grand slam.

Sulphur Springs scored in almost every inning.

In the second, Garrett Faulkner singled ahead of Cooper, who hit his first home run of the contest.

In the third, Quentin Stovall singled, Garrett Stovall walked and Cooper drove them both home with a double. Cabo Sanvig, Austin Buck and Zack Miller then followed with consecutive RBI singles.

In the fourth inning, Faulkner again singled and Cooper again hit a two-run homer.

Then, in the fifth, Collin Williams doubled, Cole Devereaux singled him home and Quentin Stovall also singled.

In the sixth, the Blaze scored one run on three hits. Cooper hit a solo home run ahead of Sanvig and Miller, who both singled.

Pitchers for the Blaze were Cooper, Faulkner and Buck.
