Dixie State Tournaments set to begin this weekend

July 5, 2007 - Brackets for the Dixie Darlings and Angels state tournaments set to begin this weekend at Coleman Park have been finalized, but the incessant rain has jeopardized the tournaments.

Opening ceremonies, which were originally scheduled for Friday, have been canceled, and Saturday's schedule of opening-round games in both tournaments is in limbo because of the wet weather.

The tournaments were both scheduled to start Saturday and run through Tuesday, but local Dixie softball officials have warned that the schedule could be pushed back because of the rain.

While Sulphur Springs has not received as much rain as many parts of the metroplex, the Coleman Park fields have not had time to dry out, and with a shower this morning and more predicted for tomorrow, the fields could be too wet to play for several days.

In the Darlings (7-8-year-old) tournament, Hopkins County has two entries: the host team, Hopkins County American coached by Rowdy Crowson, and the District 4 champions, Hopkins County National coached by Jill Dietze.

In the Angels (9-10-year-old) bracket, Hopkins County is represented by the host team coached by Mike Moore, Jamie Harris and Sharon Womack.

The original match-ups for the tournaments are below, though those could change:
