Gideon finishes in top eight at Pleasant Grove tournament
From Staff Reports
Feb. 28, 2007 - Senior Dustin Gideon has led the Sulphur Springs golfers in three tournaments this season, finishing in the top 10 in each outing.
The Wildcats played at the Pleasant Grove tournament on Feb. 16-17 and and shot a 339-367 in the 36-hole event. Texarkana won the tournament.
Gideon finished in the top eight by firing a 79-80.
"This was a really good score considering the high winds and cold temperatures," said SSHS head coach Doug Evans.
The squad then went to Lindale on Feb. 19 under even windier conditions, and their inexperience showed up in the scores, Evans said. District rivals North Lamar and Lindale finished first and second in the tournament.
On Monday, the Wildcats traveled to North Lamar, finishing third by firing a season-best 337.
Gideon finished sixth by carding a 77. Freshmen Adam Perry and Cort Walker fired 85 and 86, respectively, and senior Robby Moore came in at 89. Senior Hesston Taylor carded a 111.
North Lamar shot 314 to finish first and Lindale shot 316 to finish second.
In the JV division, SSHS finished fourth with a 397. The JV is composed of freshman Cole Cable, 96; senior Price Orwosky, 99; sophomore Josh Gaines, 100; senior Lance Knotts, 102; and, senior Josh Willis, 108.
