Six Sulphur Springs powerlifters place in Top Five

Feb. 15, 2007 - COMO - Six Sulphur Springs powerlifters placed in the top five in their divisions of the Como-Pickton powerlifting meet on Saturday, including a pair of winning performances.
Junior Rodney Evans won the 275-pound classification and senior Kevin Rape took gold in the superheavyweight division as they both surpassed the 1,200-pound mark.
J.B. Beachum took second place in the 220-pound division, while Johnny McSheffery was fourth in the 165-pound class and Mason Y'Barbo placed fourth in the 242-pound classification. Taylor Link was fifth in the 123-pound division.
Evans, who moved up to No. 7 in the regional rankings, lifted 1,265 pounds, a 105-pound improvement over his initial meet three weeks prior. He improved by a total of 55 pounds over last week in the three lifts: bench press, dead lift and squat.
Rape is No. 13 in the region after lifting 1,210 pounds on Saturday.
Beachum is also in the top 20 in the region in his classification after lifting 1,140 pounds.
McSheffery totaled 875 pounds in his three lifts, and Y'Barbo lifted 980 pounds in his first meet of the season.
Link is in fourth place in the region after lifting 680 pounds in 123-pound division.
The Wildcats placed third as a team at the meet.
Sulphur Springs fans can get a chance to cheer on the home team Saturday as the Wildcats host a meet in the SSHS gym. Lifting is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
