North Hopkins win district championship in playoff

Feb. 10, 2007 - QUINLAN - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers trailed for 30 minutes of their game on Friday. But, it was the last two minutes that counted.

The Lady Panthers edged Boles, 38-37, in a playoff to determine the top seed in District 18-A, Div. I.

With the win, North Hopkins (17-13) earned a first-round bye in the playoffs and will face the winner between the District 19-A runner-up and the third-place team out of District 20-A on Friday or Saturday.

Against Boles, the Lady Panthers trailed by six points (29-23) going into the final period, but Jessi Mannis scored nine of her 11 points and Ebbonye Johnson had five of her team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Sabra Thomas added six points and seven rebounds, Cayla Newkirk had three points and nine boards, and Megan Lehr ended with four rebounds and one point.

Boles was led in scoring by Bayli Hartford with 15 points, and Sarah Duran and Sara Benton each had nine points.
