Yantis girls roll to 3-0

Aug. 20, 2007 - WOLFE CITY - The Yantis Lady Owls moved to 3-0 on the year with a hard-fought 3-1 win against a tough Wolfe City squad.

The Lady Owls took the first two games 25-16 and 27-25, lost Game 3 by a score of 21-25, and came back to take a thrilling 27-25 effort to win the contest.

Baylee Gilbreath led the team with seven kills, four assists and six digs. Isy Reyna added six kills, five assists, an ace and nine digs; Amanda McKinney had four kills, four assists and eight digs; Jamie Gilliland added six kills, five assists, an ace and five digs; Christina Tauzen contributed six kills and three aces; and Holly Madden had six kills, five assists and six digs.

Gilbreath and Gilliland each had four blocks with Gilbreath's final block coming in Game 4 to put Yantis up 26-25 before Madden scored the game-winning serve.

In the freshman game, the Lady Owls won 27-25, 25-14 to go 2-0 for the year.

The Lay Owl JV team went the distance with a 25-17, 19-25, 27-25 victory to go 2-1 for the season.

Yantis varsity will travel to the annual North Hopkins Tournament for pool play against Edgewood at 3 p.m. Thursday. They will also play Avery and Roxton.
