Wildcat Notes

Aug. 9, 2007 - The Wildcat defense has been working a lot on form tackling, something they will undoubtedly get a full dose of starting tomorrow when full pads are put on. ... Head coach Greg Owens expects to go through one lengthy morning practice on Friday, ending at about 11 a.m. or so and culminating in a full contact scrimmage session. ... Players have been getting fitted for pads since Monday.

... One of the most interesting pieces of equipment on the practice field is "the chute." It resembles a tall trampoline, about 3 1/3-feet off the ground. Players do drills underneath it to remind them to stay low. ... The two remaining players who had not completed the 16 half-gassers under the allotted time on the previous three days did so on Thursday morning.

... The Wildcats will travel to Greenville for the first scrimmage next Saturday morning, Aug. 18. The varsities will probably get going at 8 a.m., with the JV and freshmen to start at 10:30 a.m. At least that's the tentative schedule.

... Faces in the crowd: Former SSHS head coaches Dwayne McMeans and Chuck King (whose son Klint is a Wildcat assistant) were watching Thursday morning. Also in attendance was former Wildcat Bryant"Bam" Jackson, whose son Bryant "Day-Day" Jackson is a promising sophomore wide receiver/safety.
