Playoff tie-breaking scenario set for SSHS
From Staff Reports
April 19, 2007 - With three softball teams battling for the final two playoff berths in District 11-4A heading into the regular season finale Friday night, a schedule of possible tie-breaking games has been set.
Scenarios include Sulphur Springs and Lindale ending in a tie for third, or SSHS, Lindale and North Lamar all tying for second.
Sulphur Springs hosts Paris at 6 p.m. Friday. If the Lady Cats (16-13) win and Lindale (24-5) beats Texas High, the two teams will be tied at 6-4 in district and will have to have a playoff for third place. Lindale and SSHS split the season series with the Lady Cats winning 3-2 last Friday night.
If both SSHS and Lindale win or if both teams lose on Friday, they will play a deciding game at 4 p.m. Saturday at New Diana, according to information that assistant coach Eric Buck posted on ladycatsoftball.com.
If North Lamar (22-5-2) loses to Mount Pleasant (19-9) Friday, while SSHS and Lindale both win, then there will be a three-way tie. SSHS and Lindale will still play on Saturday with the winner facing North Lamar on Monday at a site and time to be determined.
Directions to New Diana High School: The softball field is behind the baseball field at the intersection of State Highways 154 and 259. Turn right on 259 and the field is on the left.
The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will attempt to remain tied for first place on Friday when they host Paris at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats (5-2, 14-9) are tied with Texas High and North Lamar atop the 11-4A standings. It's possible all three teams could remain deadlocked after Friday as North Lamar plays host to Mount Pleasant (2-5), and Texas High hosts Lindale (0-7).
After Friday, the district teams will have two more games remaining.
