Panthers maintain share of District 17-A lead

April 17, 2007 - CUMBY - North Hopkins' Bradley Ball led the Panthers on the mound and at the plate Monday in an important 8-3 win over Cumby.
Ball went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, and also went the distance on the mound, giving up five hits while walking 10 and fanning 10.
With the win, the Panthers (13-10 overall, 7-1 in district) remained tied with Saltillo for first place in District 17-A. The two teams will play at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Birthright for the outright district lead.
Cumby fell to 12-9, 5-3.
North Hopkins managed 12 hits, including two-hit games from Dustin Clements, Jeremy Dixon, Ricky Willis (who also had two RBI, and Joe Smiddy. Lorenzo Rivera and Jy'Darius Hawkins added one hit each.
For Cumby, Kris Stanford had two hits, and Brixx Hawthorne had a hit and two RBI. Also with one each each were Tanner Gomez and Jake Vann.
Stanford was effective on the mound, as he came on in relief in the fourth inning and allowed three runs on five hits and one walk in four innings. Jeffery Smith took the loss.
