Panthers take down Sulphur Bluff in 17-A

April 14, 2007 - BIRTHRIGHT - North Hopkins' Lorenzo Rivera had three hits and Steven Crocker knocked in three runs Tuesday as the Panthers took down Sulphur Bluff, 13-7, in District 17-A.

The Panthers scored six runs in the third inning to break open a 3-3 tie. Rivera had a double and RBI, while Joe Smiddy added a double and RBI, and Rickey Willis and A.D. Ramirez each had a double and two runs batted in. Jy'Darius Hawkins added a single.

Ramirez started the game for North Hopkins (12-10 overall, 6-1 in district), and went three innings, giving up three hits on three hits and two walks while striking out five. Smiddy came on in relief and picked up the win by fanning five and walking three while giving up four hits and four runs in four innings.

For Sulphur Bluff (3-4), Michael Hale went 3-for-3 with a double, home run and four RBI in a losing effort. Riechle, Littrell and Kyle Keahey each had a hit. Clanton added a double, two walks and scored twice.

The Panthers have games remaining against Cumby on Monday, Saltillo on Friday and Roxton on Saturday.
