Cats fall short in bid for regional tennis
From Staff Reports

Sept. 27, 2006 - LINDALE - The Sulphur Springs Wildcats tennis team lost its bid for a regional berth Tuesday with a 15-2 loss to the Lindale Eagles.

"This was a very disappointing loss to us," said SSHS tennis coach Susan Reynolds. "We have known from last spring that Lindale would be tough and full of talent and they showed that today.

"They have a very deep roster with some talented kids and our players gave everything they had, but they just couldn't get into the matches."

The mixed doubles team of Brant Small and Tara Moore defeated Stracener and Lorren 6-1, 6-0, while Erich Hartin picked up the Wildcats' other win with a three-set victory against Vader 1-6, 6-4, 10-6.

"We had several bright spots with our mixed doubles and some three-set matches that could have gone either way," Reynolds said.

The Wildcats next match will be Oct. 10 against Mount Pleasant for third place in the district.

"We're going to get ready for Mount Pleasant and then get a good idea of what we need to work on for our spring season," the coach said. "Overall I'm proud of the kids for giving 100 percent no matter who the opponent has been."

Note: The Meet The Wildcat Marathon was rained out Saturday and will be rescheduled for a date in October.
