Double-Dip: Lady Cats fall to Paris, host MP Tuesday in finale of homestand
From Staff Reports

Sept. 25, 2006 - Sulphur Springs went 0-for-2 at homecoming on Friday, as the Lady Cats lost a three-game volleyball match to Paris.

Paris improved to 2-0 in District 11-4A and 24-4 overall with a 25-22, 25-11, 25-13 victory at Wildcat Gym.

Paris is tied with Texas High (13-10) for the 11-4A lead, while Sulphur Springs dropped to 0-2, 8-16 overall.

Whether it was the distraction of homecoming activities or something else, the Lady Cats didn't have the right focus to compete with Paris, said SSHS head coach Christi Funk.

"We didn't show up to play. Our minds were clearly on other things and not on our game," she said. "We just didn't have any desire to take a win. If the desire was there, we didn't take any action to do it."

She said a practice on Saturday was designed to get the players' attention before they host Mount Pleasant on Tuesday in the final match of a three-game homestand. The varsity is scheduled to start at about 6 p.m. in the SSHS gym.

"That distraction will be gone, and we worked Saturday on some of the other distractions we had going on also," Funk said. "Hopefully, we'll see that change tomorrow night."

The SSHS freshmen beat Paris 22-25, 25-21, 25-11.
