Lady Panthers win second district match

Sept. 25, 2006 - BIRTHRIGHT - North Hopkins improved to 2-0 in District 18-A on Friday with a three-game sweep of Yantis.

The Lady Panthers won by scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-20 to improve to 15-9 overall. They also beat Union Hill, 25-17, 25-14, 25-19 on Tuesday to open district play.

"I saw them play the best volleyball they've played all year long," said NH head coach Danna Lewis. "They passed the ball really well and moved on the floor well. This is what a coach wants to see in district play."

Senior Ebbonye Johnson recorded a triple-double and Sabra Thomas  had double-double to lead the Lady Panthers. Johnson recorded 16 kills, 14 assists and 10 points to go with two blocks, while Thomas added 10 kills, 18 assists, four aces and five points.

Holly Argenbright contributed six kills and seven points, Hannah Martel had five kills, while Kadee Melton and Chastin Smiddy had three kills each. Kaylee Cotten added three kills, 16 points and three aces.

In the JV game, North Hopkins won, 25-3, 28-26, as Virginia Thomas had 11 service points in Game 1, and Kayla Williams added 12 assists.
