From Staff Reports

Sept. 23, 2006 - The Sulphur Springs junior varsity tennis team lost to Wills Point 15-14 in team tennis at the George Fox Memorial Tennis Complext on Thursday.

"This was a very impressive outing for our junior varsity," said SSHS coach Susan Reynolds. "Our guys pretty much made a sweep but our girls struggled a bit."

The junior varsity's next match will be Oct. 19 at Wills Point.

In boys singles, Robert Stevens, Zach Adams, Dillon Smith, Dakoda Painter, Cory Wright, Jarred Brown, Sam Long, Jed Walker and Cade Winborn were victorious.

In girls singles, Maritza Sanchez won the only match as she beat Wills Point's Anastia 6-4, while in girls doubles Dominique Pryor and Heather Stuckey won the only doubles match against Timmons and Walker 8-4.

In boys doubles, Adams and Stevens defeated McCormack and Sewell 8-1, Smith and Painter beat Janicek and Brochein 8-5 and Walker and Long defeated. Connell and Johnson 8-5.

"This is one of the biggest groups I've had and playing matches like this shows me what we need to work on and it helps the kids get a lot of match play in," Reynolds said. "Some of the matches we lost were close, but overall I was very proud of the kids and now I know what we need to focus on in workouts to get better."
