Lady Eagles win first district match
From Staff Reports

Sept. 21, 2006 - COMO - The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles took two of three games in their first District 16-2A match against Alba-Golden on Tuesday.

The varsity won 17-25, 25-23, 27-25 and will now prepare for Hawkins next at Eagle Gymnasium at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

C-P's hard-hitting middle hitters Katie Moss and Kaycee Thomas helped lead the way in the third game as Mollye Lay served nine straight points to bury the Panthers 25-27.

Tough digging from back row players Alyssa Taylor, Maryjo Sandate, Shea Smith and libero Hannah Manverse kept the game close with excellent ball control.

Key tips from Maci Kight, who is fighting through a shoulder injury, along with the front row play of Brittany Hodges and Samantha Jones combined with another serving run from Lay to end the match.

In the JV game, CPHS swept Alba-Golden in two games as coach Frances Mowat praised the play of setters Shelby Harrison and Skye Brumley and middle hitters Chesley Walden and Saxe Daughtery.

In the freshman contest, Kiah Sue Kunavin and Haley Moseley had seven and nine points, respectively, to lead the Lady Eagles in serves.
