T-High takes first district tennis match
From Staff Reports

Sept. 20, 2006 - MOUNT PLEASANT - The Wildcat tennis team fell to one state-ranked team on Tuesday and has a shot at another next week.

The Wildcats were beaten in their first District 11-4A match against 16th-ranked Texas High, 11-1, yesterday and will face No. 15 Lindale next Tuesday in a must-win for a regional berth.

On Tuesday, the mixed doubles team of Brant Small and Tara Moore were the only winners for Sulphur Springs against a powerhouse Texas High squad.

"This was a very tough day for us," said SSHS head coach Susan Reynolds. 'We knew going in how tough Texas High is, but we couldn't get our foot in the door in any match. "Their boys are so strong, and we couldn't rebound after the doubles."

All six doubles matches were won by Texas High in straight sets, other than the mixed doubles match, when Small/Moore beat Texas High's Smith/Havener, 6-3, 6-4.

"To beat Texas High, you have to come out firing, and we just couldn't find any rhythm whatsoever," Reynolds said.

Before facing Lindale, the SSHS tennis team will have a Meet the Wildcat fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the George Fox Memorial Tennis Complex at the high school. The public can pay $20 for all-day tennis, food and get to play with the high school players.
