Cumby rebounds in a big way
Trojans throttle RCA, 42-7

Sept. 9, 2006 - ROCKWALL - Following a tough loss to the Alba-Golden Panthers in Zero Week, the Cumby Trojans bounced back in a big way Friday night with a 42-7 win over the Rockwall Christian Academy Warriors.

Cumby (1-1) opened the game with a 9-yard touchdown run by freshman quarterback Brixx Hawthorne. Hawthorne then booted the PAT good for the 7-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, senior Adam Fite scampered 45 yards for a touchdown to give Cumby a 14-0 lead. Hawthorne booted his second PAT good.

Cumby took a 22-0 lead into the locker room as Hawthorne connected with Kris Stanford for his only touchdown pass of the game on a 30-yard strike. Hawthorne then found Fite for the two-point conversion.

The Trojans added to their lead in the third quarter as junior running back Nathan Dunnihoo scored from 9-yards out. Hawthorne connected with Josh Rodriguez for the two-point conversion and a 30-0 lead.

Rockwall Christian then scored on an 8-yard run by their quarterback and converted the extra point to get to within 30-7, but Miles Parker and Jake Vann scored on runs of 27 and 30 yards respectively to seal the win.

Dunnihoo finished the game with 83 yards rushing on seven carries, Parker had six carries for 80 yards, Fite had five carries for 74 yards and Jake Vann had six carries for 62 yards.

The Eagles defense held Rockwall Christian to only 10 yards rushing on 22 carries and gave up 116 yards in the game. They also recovered two fumbles in the contest.

The Trojans will be at home next Friday night against Detroit for their home opener. Kickoff for the non-district contest is set for 7:30 p.m.
