Lady Hornets take care of Detroit

Sept. 6, 2006 - DETROIT - The Miller Grove Lady Hornets improved their record to 7-4 on Tuesday with a four-game victory over Detroit.

The Lady Hornets lost the first game 25-18, but then swept three straight by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-16.

Adrian Estrada led the Lady Horents in points (17 and assists (13 to go with three kills. Natalie Bailey had a team-high 11 kills along with eight points and three digs. Amanda Sims led in digs with four to go with 13 service points.

Becca George also had 13 points and three kills, Angelic Rios added 16 points and one kill, and Leslie Wagley contributed 12 points, seven assists and one kill. Dianne Sparks recorded one kill and Jenifer Mayfield added three digs and two kills.

"It was a good win after a long weekend," said MG head coach Melissa Kethley. "Detroit had some tough players, but the girls played smart and came out with the win."

That win helped the Lady Hornets rebound from a tough loss to East Texas Christian Academy at the ETCA tournament, in which MGHS finished third. The Lady Hornets lost by scores of 24-26, 16-25, 25-14, 19-25.

"Even though the girls fell short, they played hard and I am excited to see how well they do in district," Kethley said.

Bailey led the way during the tournament with 10 service points, 14 kills, 15 assists and two digs, Estrada had 19 service points, three digs and one kill, and Becca George had nine service points, five digs and seven assists. 

Wagley added eight service points, one dig, six assists and two kills, Rios had 13 service points and two digs, Mayfield contributed two digs and one assist, Sims had eight digs, and Sparks added three assists.
