Sept. 2, 2006 - COOPER - Quitman ground out almost 400 yards of total offense Friday night and limited Cooper to a single yard passing in a 33-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
Quitman's Chris Bennett carried 11 times for 120 yards and scored a TD, and three of his teammates rushed for more than 50 yards apiece all all scored a touchdown as well.
The Bulldogs got out to a 20-0 lead in the first period on a 1-yard run by Joe Lucas midway through the quarter. Then, less than a minute later, Quitman's Doug Carden picked up Cooper's only fumble of the game and returned it 45 yards for another TD and a 13-0 lead.
Quitman added another TD on its next possession on quarterback Colten Peek's 16-yard run. Peek added a 5-yard pass to Blaine Shackelford in the fourth quarter to wrap up the scoring.
In addition to Bennett's output, which included a 55-yard TD run in the second period, Carden ran eight time for 84 yards, Peek gained 64 yards on eight totes, and Lucas carried 15 times for 54 yards.
Cooper managed 144 yards rushing on 32 carries, highlighted by 122 yards on 10 carries by Ron Morris. But, in the passing department, Cooper quarterbacks Travis Williams and Adrian Migura combined to go 1-of-13 for 1 yard and one interception.
