Prairiland knocks Cooper out of playoff contention

Oct. 28, 2006 - COOPER - The Cooper Bulldogs were eliminated from playoff contention Friday night after losing to the Prairiland Patriots, 19-7, in District 15-2A action.

Cooper is now 2-7 overall, 1-4 in district, while Prairiland improves to 5-3, 3-1.

Prairiland's Trent House got the scoring going as he recovered a Cooper fumble in the end zone in the second period. Kyle Blanton booted the PAT good for the 7-0 lead.

Later in the second period, Patriots' quarterback Dayne Sessums powered his way in from a yard out for the 13-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Cooper's Ron Morris scored from 5-yards out as Travis Williams booted the PAT good with 11:53 remaining to draw Cooper to within 13-7.

Prairiland scored its final touchdown of the game, and put the victory away, as House scored from 10-yards out for the 19-7 finale.

Morris was the leading rusher for Cooper with 33 yards on eight carries, while Andre Larry had six carries for 22 yards.

Williams was 3-of-12 for 36 yards and three interceptions for Cooper, as Cornelius Anderson had one catch for 22 yards, Wade Thompson had one catch for 10 yards ,and Chris Burden caught one pass for four yards.

Defensively, Ellis Hinsley led the Bulldogs with 16 tackles, Jackson Sholta had 10, and Holden Jenkins, Thompson and Garrett Wilson had eight stops each. Anderson had a fumble recovery.

The Bulldogs wrap up the season at Paris Chisum next Friday night.
