|Trojans start off district play with lopsided victory|

Oct. 14, 2006 - CUMBY - The Cumby Trojans grabbed a share of the early lead in District 17-A with Wolfe City and Celeste following a 52-0 thumping of the Dallas A+ Academy Knights Friday night at Trojan Field.
Senior Adam Fite led the way with four rushing touchdowns, gaining 100 yards on 10 carries, while Nathan Dunnihoo, Brixx Hawthorne, Ryan Vaughn and Robert Baxter each added touchdowns in the game. Dunnihoo finished with 14 carries for 141 yards and one touchdown.
Cumby (2-4, 1-0)� scored on its opening drive as Fite powered his way in from a yard out. The two-point conversion was successful as Hawthorne found Dunnihoo in the end zone for an 8-0 lead.
Dunnihoo scored later on in the first quarter on a 7-yard run, but the two-point conversion was no good to leave Cumby ahead, 14-0.
Fite capped off the first quarter scoring with his second touchdown of the contest on a 34-yard scamper as Cumby held a 22-0 lead.
In the second half, the Trojans picked up where they left off in the first� by scoring 24 unanswered points as Fite scored his third touchdown on a reverse of 39 yards for the 28-0 lead.
Later in the period, Fite scored his fourth touchdown of the contest on a 15-yard run, putting Cumby up, 34-0.
Ryan Vaughn then scored his first touchdown of the year on a 3-yard run late in the quarter. The PAT was no good again.�
Hawthorne gave Cumby a 46-0 lead as he scampered 29 yards at the end of the third quarter.�
Late in the fourth quarter, senior offensive lineman Robert Baxter scored the first touchdown of his career on a 1-yard run. The PAT was no good.
The Cumby defense forced five turnovers on fumble recoveries by Ryan Vaughn, Rodney Hobbs, Nathan Dunnihoo and Brian Clem.�
Hawthorne was 8-of-12 for 143 yards in the passing department and rushed for 87 yards on 10 carries. Kris Stanford was the leading receiver with four receptions for 120 yards.
The Trojans gained 497 yards of offense, including 354 on the ground.
The Cumby defense only gave up 51 total yards of offense.
Cumby plays at Celeste next Friday, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
