Cooper keeps alive postseason hopes

Oct. 14, 2006 - COOPER - With any hopes of making the Class 2A playoffs, the Cooper Bulldogs had to have a big win over the Rivercrest Rebels Friday night.

They got it.

The Bulldogs received a 30-yard field goal from Travis Williams in the fourth quarter to complete the 10-7 victory in District 15-2A.

Cooper is now 2-5 overall, 1-2 in district, while Rivercrest falls to 3-4, 0-3.

Cooper's Ron Morris got the scoring going with as he powered his way in from a yard out in the second period. Travis Williams booted the PAT good for a 7-0 lead. Morris finished with 33 yards on 14 carries.

In the third quarter, Rivercrest tied the game at 7-7 as Aaron Rolen scooped up a fumble and returned it 30 yards to paydirt. Cole Birchfield booted the PAT good.

Andre Larry was the leading rusher for Cooper with 63 yards on nine carries, while Gaylon Bacy had 12 totes for 50 yards.

Travis Williams was 3-of-6 for 54 yards and one interception for Cooper as Cornelius Anderson had one catch for 29 yards and Jordan Thompson had two catches for 25 yards.

Cooper had 203 total yards compared to only 86 for the Rebels (3-4, 0-3).

Defensively, Ellis Hinsley led the Bulldogs with seven tackles and Anderson added six. Anderson came up with two fumble recoveries while Colby McPherson had four tackles for losses.

The Bulldogs travel to Clarksville Friday for another District 15-2A contest.
