Thomas recognized at Class A Cross Country All-Star

Nov. 26, 2006 - A four-time All-State runner, North Hopkins senior Sabra Thomas will get her due recognition next summer.

Thomas will be honored by the Texas Girls Coaches Association as the Class A Cross Country All-Star during the 2007 TGCA Summer Clinic. She will be introduced during halftime of the association's annual All-Star basketball game.

Thomas earned All-State honors in cross country all four years of high school. She was twice a member of the state championship team and also a state runner-up. She placed no lower than 11th individually at the state meet.

She was one of several Hopkins County runners to be win honors from the TGCA and Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas this year, adding to the county's reputation as a stronghold for young runners.

Thomas and teammates Jessi Mannis and Rosa Fuentes were all honored on the TGCA All-State team and Hannah Martel was named Academic All-State.

On the CCCAT All-State team, Mannis and Thomas were both recognized along with Miller Grove's Stormy Combs, Como-Pickton's Bethanie Stinson and Sulphur Springs' Graham Northcutt.

The CCCAT also named its All-Region teams, all of those runners were also honored.

Mannis, Thomas, Fuentes and Combs were all named on the Class A, Region III squad. On the boys side, North Hopkins' Jose Cadena and Jesus Delgado were honored along with Sulphur Bluff's Merced Rodriguez.

Stinson was named to the Class 2A, Region III team, while Northcutt was on the Class 4A, Region II squad.
