CPHS boys win consolation championship; Saltillo boys and girls finish second

Nov. 20, 2006 - SALTILLO - The Como-Pickton boys won the consolation championship at the Saltillo Invitational Tournament, while the Saltillo girls and boys teams finished in second place in their respective divisions Saturday.

In the third place games, Como-Pickton defeated North Hopkins 30-27, while Yantis defeated the North Hopkins' boys 54-39.

GIRLS

CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP

Rivercrest 64, Yantis 37

The Yantis Lady Owls were outscored in every quarter as Rivercrest held a 39-19 lead at the half.

Miriam Williams scored a game-high 18 points while Racheal Smith had 14 points for the Lady Rebels.

Yantis was led by Amanda McKinney with nine points.

A 12-5 run in the fourth quarter gave the Lady Eagles the come-from-behind win over North Hopkins.

Maci Kight scored a team-high 13 points for Como-Pickton while Katie Moss added six.

For North Hopkins, Ebbonye Johnson had a game-high 16 points.

Three players scored in double figures for the Lady Lions but it wasn't enough to win their tournament.

Sam Rayburn outscored Saltillo 12-9 in the extra frame as Achley Arthur had 16 points and Lanie Johnson scored 10 for Sam Rayburn.

Saltillo was led by Winter Stevens with 18 points.

CPHS held a 32-18 lead at the half and held on for the win Saturday afternoon.

Chase Beck led the Eagles with 15 points while Justin Blount had 10.

For the Bears, Merced Rodriguez led with eight points.

Saltillo held a 34-24 lead at the intermission before Sam Rayburn outscored the Lions 34-28 in the second half for the come-from-behind win.

Nolan Skidmore and Chris Sanders had 21 points each for the Rebels.

Miles Payne led Saltillo with 22 points while Travis Thompson added 10.
