Lady Cats finish third in Roundball Roundup

Nov. 20, 2006 - QUINLAN - The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats turned on the defensive screws Saturday, beating Scurry-Rosser 42-18 and earning third place in Quinlan Ford's Roundball Roundup.

Sulphur Springs improved to 4-2 on the season behind 20 points and eight rebounds from junior post Star Wright and 10 points, eight rebounds and five steals from senior forward Cresha Hubbard.

The Lady Cats held Scurry-Rosser to just two points in the first quarter en route to an 11-2 advantage and held a 20-10 lead at halftime.

Hubbard scored five of her points in the first period, while Jessica Savage hit a 3-pointer. In the second period, Wright scored six points and Stephanie Pruitt added a trey.

The Lady Cats outscored S-R 12-6 in the third period behind six points from Wright.

Pruitt ended the game with four points while Savage scored five. Pruitt added two steals, while Mackenzie Cross contributed four steals and a team-high four assists. Stephanie Conley finished with four steals and two assists.

Jessica Young led Scurry-Rosser with eight points.

The Lady Cats will be in action again tomorrow when they travel to Paris Chisum to play their final game before the Thanksgiving break. The JV and freshmen will play at 3:30 p.m., with the varsity game scheduled for 5 p.m.
