Wolfe City hands Cumby big loss
From Staff Reports

Nov. 4, 2006 - CUMBY - In a battle of undefeated teams in District 17-A, the No. 6-ranked Wolfe City Wolves handed the Cumby Trojans a 65-0 thumping at Trojan Field Friday night.

The Wolves (9-0, 4-0) clinched a playoff berth with the win and at least a share of the district championship pending the outcomes of Friday night's games.

To get into the playoffs, Cumby (3-5, 3-1 in district) needs to beat Quinlan Boles outright or lose by no more than one point next Friday night if Wolfe City beats Celeste. If Celeste can pull off the upset, Cumby has to win in order to make it to the postseason.

The Trojans were led in the passing department by freshman Brixx Hawthorne, who finished 7-of-17 for 84 yards and three interceptions. Adam Fite was the leading rusher for the Trojans with 18 yards on three carries. Josh Rodriguez was the leading receiver with four receptions for 39 yards.

The Trojans generated 85 total yards, while Wolfe City had 543 yards.

Cumby wraps up the regular season at Quinlan Boles in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
