NH-Collinsville regional semfinal series in McKinney

May 18, 2006 - BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers will face a stiff 1-2 pitching punch from Collinsville when they open the regional semifinal softball series tomorrow.

North Hopkins and Collinsville will tangle in a best two-out-of three series in the Class A, Region II semifinals starting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at McKinney High School. The series will resume at 4 p.m. Saturday at McKinney for Game 2 with Game 3  to follow if it's necessary.

Collinsville, the No. 2-ranked team in the state, will likely open the three-gme series with Brentney Swindle on the mound, then allow Brittaney Ross to throw the second game.

North Hopkins coach Jim Westbrook will likely counter with junior hurler KayLee  Cotten.

Westbrook said the Lady Panthers (21-4) will have to hit the ball well to beat the pitchers from Collinsville. The combined to beat Ector in two games, 3-1 in 11 innings and 3-0 in Game 2, last weekend.

North Hopkins, champions of District 14-A, beat Maud, 7-0, in the regional quarterfinals last Monday. 

The winner between North Hopkins and Collinsville will face either Celeste of Rivercrest next week in the regional finals with a trip to the state softball tournament in Austin on the line.

Other Regions - Region I: Windthorst vs. Haskell/Eula. Region II - Celeste/Rivercrest vs. North Hopkins/Collinsville; Region III: Douglass vs. Slocum/Big Sandy. Region IV: Bosqueville/D'Hanis vs. Thorndale/Shiner.

Directions - To get to the McKinney High School field, take US Highway 380 west from Greenville to McKinney. In McKinney, turn left on the US 75 service road. Stay on the service road for about two miles and turn left on Parkview, going back under US 75. Turn right on Wilson Creek Parkway and then take an immediate left on Graves Street. The ballpark is on Graves.
